Amplifying Voices, Sustaining Cultures: Podcasting as Critical Inquiry in Education

Fri, April 25, 11:40am to 1:10pm MDT (11:40am to 1:10pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Four Seasons Ballroom 1

Abstract

This qualitative study examines how teacher-researchers' podcast creation supports critical consciousness through embodied research. Grounded in culturally sustaining pedagogy (CSP), the project engaged teachers in creating counternarratives focused on underrepresented students and families. Through storytelling and reflexive analysis, participants explored power, identity, and educational equity. Findings suggest podcasting as critical inquiry can transform understanding of community cultural wealth and amplify marginalized voices. This study advocates for teacher education programs to embrace alternative inquiry methods, encouraging community-engaged research. By fostering authentic relationships and critical self-reflection, arts-based, culturally situated projects can challenge dominant discourses and support educator research.
