Research, Remedy, and Renewal to Uplift the Well-Being of Indigenous Peoples: Mentoring Indigenous Leaders in Education

Thu, April 24, 9:50 to 11:20am MDT (9:50 to 11:20am MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Meeting Room Level, Room 105

Abstract

The AERA meeting theme argues that researchers share a common desire to improve experiences, outcomes, and opportunities for all. For indigenous peoples, many iterations of research, remedy, and repair are needed to address our long histories of racial injustice and oppression in our lands. Because of the multifaceted nature of our oppression, the mentoring of indigenous leaders in education with the skills and abilities to dismantle racial injustice and construct educational possibilities is both a complex and artful undertaking. This study documents the mentoring approaches of four indigenous mentors working in the field of indigenous education. In a self-reflective approach, they will document their responses to questions designed to synthesize their thoughts on the topic of decolonizing and indigenizing mentorship.
