Unveiling Liberation: A Black Feminist Autoethnography of Educational Healing Through Daughtering

Fri, April 25, 8:00 to 9:30am MDT (8:00 to 9:30am MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Four Seasons Ballroom 1

Abstract

This analysis uses daughtering (Evans-Winters, 2019) to understand and deconstruct my journey toward liberation and educational healing. I use autoethnographic methodology from a Black feminist lens to understand my experiences as a developing human and doctoral student in the field of education. I use personal narrative and visual data in the quest for meaning-making to grapple with the ways in which my upbringing shaped my reality. No one could have predicted that the young mind once trapped in the confines of religious oppression would grow to be a Black lesbian who stood in her own power. This work pays homage to those who have stood in the gap, allowing me to be a daughter in the proverbial and literal sense.
