Fri, April 25, 8:00 to 9:30am MDT (8:00 to 9:30am MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Meeting Room Level, Room 709

Abstract

This research examined teachers’ posts about ChatGPT on the social media platform TikTok during the first year of ChatGPT’s public availability. A data set of 256 posts of teachers were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively to assess what ideas of these early adopters resonated with viewers and what these posts revealed about the teachers’ practices and attitudes regarding ChatGPT. Our analysis found that the most resonate topics connected to tensions beyond the classroom and the changing nature of teaching and learning. Concerns about student plagiarism are prevalent, but they are not deep. These early adaptors focused on practical advice of lesson planning and productivity to relieve the stresses of teaching today.
