Abstract

The COVID-19 outbreak caused global disruptions in all aspects of life. Social distancing regulations were enforced in an attempt to halt the virus spread. University students faced unprecedented challenges and stressors, especially Asian-American students because COVID-19 fueled xenophobia attitudes, harassment, and assault against people of Asian complexions. This study aimed to examine the differences in university adjustment, ways of coping, stress, and specific COVID-19 factors (e.g., emotionality, social support, academic adjustment, discrimination) of 207 participants. Results showed significant positive relationships between some university adjustment factors and COVID-19 factors; some ways of coping methods and COVID-19 factors; race and discriminatory impact adjustment; and race and reaction towards regulations. Implications and ideas for future directions for research are discussed.
