Abstract

This research comes from a multi-year study to develop a design framework called “Digital Spatial Story Lines” (Author, 2020). Social Studies education is a field ripe for learning environments that could support learning on the move (LoM) at the intersection of history and geography education and learning sciences leverages shared connection across these fields in two ways: a) learning in and beyond classrooms allows learners to take advantage of a wider array of resources through their own mobility to make stories, and b) a focus on local history makes mobility possible through situating history at the neighborhood or regional scale and opens opportunities for meaningful and relevant connections to learners lives then and now.
