Transformations in Becoming Critical Scholars in ECE: A Duoethnography of Two Women of Color in Higher Education

Fri, April 25, 9:50 to 11:20am MDT (9:50 to 11:20am MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Four Seasons Ballroom 4

Abstract

This qualitative study explores our trajectories as two Women of Color Graduate Students (WCGS) becoming critical scholars within historically white-dominant higher education institutions. Using the lens of Critical Race Feminism (CRF), we reflect on our intersectional identities, struggles, and challenges as women of color at state-level public universities. To foreground our voices and generate counternarratives, we adopt the duoethnography method developed by Sawyer and Norris, engaging in dialogical and collaborative conversations with each other. This study reveals how diverse identities and experiences create unique narratives among WCGSs, converging on a shared journey of adaptation and resilience within a higher education system that historically marginalizes non-white voices.
