Abstract

International dual degree programs positively impact students’ career opportunities and professional development outcomes. Illustrated by the programs at two universities located in Southeast Asia that are partnered with a university located in the Southwest United States, this comparative case study contributes to the higher education dual degree literature. Pulling from human capital theory (HCT) and credentialism, this research uses data from alumni and administrator interviews, as well as through an analysis of institutional website content, to assess programmatic impacts. The research findings suggest several positive outcomes, such as increased career opportunities and enhanced intercultural communication skills, resulting from international dual degree enrollment and completion. Additionally, this research highlights various strategies for university administrators to enhance support and maximize programmatic impact.
