This study aims to investigate the application of generative artificial intelligence (GAI) tool, ChatGPT, in short-term vocational training classes for web user interface (UI) design. The preliminary findings indicate that there is no statistical significance in performance between the students with and without the follow-up guidance of prompt engineering. However, the students without the follow-up guidance of prompt engineering achieved higher grades in individual projects than the ones with it. In terms of attention, relevance, confidence, and satisfaction, the students without the follow-up guidance of prompt engineering pay more attention to GAI and feel it more relevant to them than the ones with guidance. The study will have the implication for the GAI used in teaching and learning.
