Abstract

A review of the relevant literature on the topic of principal’s desire to stay on the job suggested a need for a parsimonious model for developing an administrator’s choice to stay at the job despite obstacles. The model must be accessible to higher education principal preparation programs, school districts, superintendents supporting administrator training and retention, legislators, and administrators. This qualitative and survey research study sought to obtain a rich, thick understanding of TK-12 public school administrator’s (n=14) perceptions and experiences that might inform ways school boards, districts, community members, and faculty can support leaders in their roles leading to increased administrators’ sense of belonging, longevity, and ultimately their sense of efficacy to successfully perform the tasks.
