Abstract

This study examined the impact of Arabic diglossia on emotional intelligence, intensity, and expression in 250 Israeli fifth and seventh-grade Palestinian Arabic speakers. Children were assessed for Trait EI, emotional intensity, and emotion expression in spoken (SpA) and standard Arabic (StA). findings revealed higher Trait EI and emotional intensity in SpA compared to StA across ages. Children produced more SpA items for expressing feelings. No age differences were observed. The findings highlight the importance of diglossic Arabic language forms in social-emotional skills, with implications for educational practices in multilingual contexts. The study discussed the broader theoretical and pedagogical implications, highlighting the critical interplay between linguistic structures and social-emotional skills in a diglossic context.
