Transforming Learners’ Internet-Specific Epistemic Beliefs: The Influence of Study Process and Online Academic Help-Seeking

Fri, April 25, 8:00 to 9:30am MDT (8:00 to 9:30am MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Meeting Room Level, Room 710

Abstract

The study aimed to investigate the predictive effects and relationships among gender, study process (SP), online academic help-seeking behaviors (OAHS), and Internet-specific epistemic beliefs (ISEB) among 600 college students. The results showed that male students were more likely to adopt deep study processes compared to their female counterparts. They were also more inclined to seek academic help through both formal and informal channels. Moreover, the study found that SP, and OAHS can jointly predicted various dimensions of ISEB. The explanatory power ranged from 17% to 19%. Among them, deep approach and information searching are common predictors. Finally, the ISEB cluster analysis revealed three distinct clusters.
