Implementation of Title IX to Remedy Barriers Experienced by Parenting Postsecondary Students

Thu, April 24, 3:35 to 5:05pm MDT (3:35 to 5:05pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Four Seasons Ballroom 4

Abstract

Anecdotal evidence suggests that implementation of Title IX pregnant and parenting student policies fluctuates across higher education institutions. Using institutional theory and critical policy analysis as frameworks, this national study analyzes institutional practices employed to fulfill Title IX protections for pregnant and parenting students. Data will be collected from the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) and document analysis of college webpages of select public, four-year institutions in the United States (n = 518). Analysis will provide descriptions and variability of practices, and influences of practices. Using latent class analysis (LCA) this study will determine whether a typology of postsecondary institutions exists based on the policy implementation of Title IX to support pregnant and parenting students.
