Fri, April 25, 8:00 to 9:30am MDT (8:00 to 9:30am MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Terrace Level, Bluebird Ballroom Room 3F

Abstract

Personality is an important yet underexplored factor in faculty members' experiences in academia. This study aims to examine how different personality traits influence responsibilities such as teaching and research, as well as experiences including turnover intention, promotion opportunities, and emotional wellbeing. Utilizing semi-structured interviews with 40 diverse faculty members, this research seeks to uncover unique patterns of personality's role in academia, related challenges, and expected institutional support. The findings aim to provide faculty members with insights into how their personalities shape their academic experiences and suggest strategies and resources to enhance these experiences. Additionally, the study will inform higher education institutions about necessary actions to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for faculty members.
