Wed, April 23, 10:50am to 12:20pm MDT (10:50am to 12:20pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Terrace Level, Bluebird Ballroom Room 2F

Abstract

With the election of either Kamala Harris (D) or Donald Trump (R) and the uncertainty of what education should expect after the 2024 US Presidential Election, the political discourse and/or social media regarding US leadership directly impacts preservice teachers (PTs), who are still preparing for their future classrooms. Therefore, this study investigates: 1) how PTs see the 2024 US Presidential Election as a student in a teacher preparation program; 2) how PTs perceive their future experiences regarding political issues addressed in discourse and/or social media during the 2024 US Presidential Election; and 3) how teacher educators can use information regarding emotional responses to political issues, discourse, and/or social media as an indicator for assisting PTs during their training.
