Abstract

Theories, epistemologies, and ontologies associated with qualitative inquiry call for reconceptualization of different practices connected with knowledge production. It is not enough that critical and post-scholars theorize inquiry, but they also should apply critical and post theories to revision and reimagine their inquiry processes and scholarly practices. This conceptual paper deals with diverse roles and functions of the un/non/anti-discussant in the context of critical and post-theories. It encourages scholars to generate and reconceptualize knowledge production and conference spaces which are less hierarchical and epistemologically canonical and more engaging, creative, and diversifying. In these kinds of academic and conference spaces discussants could play relational and caring, more situated, potentially undisciplined and continuously emerging roles.
