Abstract

An opportunity of access was given by former President Obama with his signing of DACA (Duarte, 2016; Juarez, 2017; Venkataramani & Tsai, 2017). However in 2017, former President Trump announced the DACA program would be rescinded by 2018 (Venkataramani & Tsai, 2017). The uncertainty of DACA’s future provided a significant challenge for DACA students attending higher educaiton (Barragain, 2009; Shelton, 2014). However, this study aimed to understand what sources drove these students to pursue higher education given the negative political climate they faced. Using Yosso’s (2005), Community Cultural Wealth (CCW) framework to examine the positive sources of capital 12 Latinx DACA college students. The study found two dominant capitals familial and resistant the students relied on to push to succeed.
