This session presents the results of a study investigating participants' experiences with a novel, informal climate change learning experience at a large public science museum. Elements of the exhibit integrate two research-supported climate communication strategies, framing and side-doors, to combat traditionally ineffective and divisive climate change messages. The exhibit presents an inclusive learning experience for diverse climate perspectives and differently impacted communities. Findings suggest that several design elements deeply support climate change learning and positive coping strategies (e.g., continued learning, adoption of behaviors, and conversing with different perspectives). Empirically-supported recommendations for the design of effective climate exhibits are proposed.
