Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the level of student engagement among transfer students. Student engagement will be measured based on the student engagement theory from George Kuh (2001) to evaluate the impact that student engagement has on persistence. Kuh theorizes student engagement and the role it plays in the overall achievement and success of students and universities (Kuh, 2001). The evaluation of the level of student engagement among transfer students will be centered around the benchmarks of student engagement according to NSSE: participation in educationally purposeful activities, institutional requirements and the challenging nature of coursework, perceptions of the college environment, estimates of educational and personal growth, and background and demographic information.
