Factors Influencing Environmental Literacy and Actions Among Taiwanese University Students (Poster 24)

Thu, April 24, 1:45 to 3:15pm MDT (1:45 to 3:15pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Exhibit Hall Level, Exhibit Hall F - Poster Session

Abstract

This study investigates the environmental literacy of university students in Taiwan after the integration of environmental education curriculum and examines the predictive power of three major variable clusters (affective, knowledge, and skills) on environmental actions. Using a survey method, 770 valid responses were collected from students across various regions and departmental categories. Descriptive statistics and hierarchical regression analysis revealed that students are not proactive in environmental actions, showing more engagement in ecological management and consumerism actions. Environmental literacy levels are moderate, with higher scores in the affective cluster. The three clusters explain up to 45.3% of environmental actions, with environmental hope, action intention, and civic participation strategy skills as significant predictors. These findings offer insights for higher education instructional strategies.
