Abstract

This study examined the civic engagement of Filipino youth (N=14) who were member volunteers of a civic organization during the COVID-19 pandemic. Anchored in the asset-based framework of Positive Youth Development, the study discussed the significance of civic engagement in enhancing youth well-being during the pandemic. Through in-depth interviews, the study examined how the participants’ engagement impacted their personal and civic lives. Thematic analysis of the interviews yielded four main themes: personal challenges during the pandemic, coping with the pandemic, work challenges, and future engagement. Participants shared that their engagement provided them with community and purpose that helped them cope during the pandemic. They also learned to deal with online work challenges. Implications of enhancing youth civic engagement are discussed.
