Students' Reasons for Doing Homework, Parental Involvement and Homework Motivation: Latent Profile Analysis

Wed, April 23, 2:30 to 4:00pm MDT (2:30 to 4:00pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Meeting Room Level, Room 709

Abstract

The study, which was conducted on 1,061 middle and high school students, categorizes students' reasons for doing homework into three main categories: academic, self-regulatory, and approval seeking. Using latent profile analysis, five distinct profiles were created based on students' reasons for doing homework: Very low, low, medium, high, and very high. The findings clearly showed that students in the high and very high profiles experienced more parental autonomy support and control, while students in the low and very low profiles had lower levels of homework interest and parental autonomy support.
