Abstract

This study explores preservice elementary teachers’ (PSTs’) perceptions of artificial intelligence (AI) and its potential classroom usage through the lens of Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (AI-TPACK). This research was performed at a small northeast teaching college with 84 PSTs enrolled in two integrated science methods and foundations courses. Data were collected via surveys and reflections. Findings unearthed a mixture of perceived benefits and concerns, with PSTs articulating discrete considerations and challenges. This work emphasizes the need for contextualized AI-TPACK knowledge in teacher education toward fostering PSTs’ AI literacy and future classroom enactment.
