Abstract

This study leverages Canvas data to investigate the relationship between student and faculty Canvas engagement and course outcomes. The findings reveal distinct engagement patterns for both students and faculty during a typical semester and identify significant predictors of student course performance. Specifically, adjusted cumulative GPA and student Canvas engagement emerged as significant predictors of course performance across both face-to-face and online courses. Conversely, faculty Canvas engagement was found to be negatively associated with course performance, regardless of course modality. This study sheds light on utilization of Canvas login data to deepen our understanding of students’ learning processes. This analysis facilitates the identification of areas for intervention and improvement, contributing to the enhancement of teaching and learning experiences and outcomes.
