Sun, April 27, 8:00 to 9:30am MDT (8:00 to 9:30am MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Four Seasons Ballroom 2-3

Abstract

This multiple case study explores the experiences of Black women in research administration leadership within higher education, focusing on their perceptions of invisibility and strategies for disrupting it. The study employs qualitative methods, including interviews and thematic analysis, to provide a nuanced understanding of the systemic barriers and personal resilience exhibited by these leaders. Findings indicate that feelings of invisibility are pervasive, but participants use various strategies to assert their presence and effectiveness. This research contributes to discussions on educational equity, highlighting the need for systemic change to support the visibility and success of Black women in academic leadership.
