Abstract

Research shows that education is a facilitating factor for women to become feminists, and its role varies in different contexts. However, the relationship between education and Chinese feminist identity has received less attention. This qualitative study explores the impact of educational experiences on the formation of feminist identity among post-90s Chinese female students. The results reveal two ways of identity formation. One is experiencing or witnessing gender events combined with education. The other is the combination of the conflict of gender perceptions and education. It also illustrates the importance of education for Chinese women and the interplay between educational experiences and Chinese women’s feminist identity.
