Thu, April 24, 5:25 to 6:55pm MDT (5:25 to 6:55pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Meeting Room Level, Room 704

Abstract

This study explores the formation of social networks among Latina immigrant mothers and the role of these social networks in providing support, resources, and knowledge about the K-12 education system. A total of 11 Latina immigrant mothers were recruited to complete this study. This study's overarching theoretical framework consists of Latina/o critical race theory, Chicana feminist epistemology, and community cultural wealth. A Chicana feminista mixed methods research approach was implemented to collect data, including testimonios. In the form of participatory visual mapping, Ego-net was used to collect quantitative data. This study seeks to fill a research gap by challenging the deficit perspectives of Latinx immigrant communities and households.
