Wed, April 23, 12:40 to 2:10pm MDT (12:40 to 2:10pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Four Seasons Ballroom 2-3

Abstract

A century ago, the National Congress of Colored Parents-Teachers Association aimed to strengthen the relationship between Black parents and teachers and leverage those relationships to improve the quality of education for Black children. The belief in the vital role Black parents play in enacting change in the U.S. education system has never died, and the spirit of the 1900s remains as Black parents continue to demand and advocate for high-quality learning and education. This paper introduces attendees to the definition of community-driven research (CDR) methodology and a case example of increasing Black parent engagement in education decisions. The presenter aims to share lessons learned and build a collective understanding of CDR methodology use in increasing Black parent engagement
