Abstract

For two decades, the Journal of Southeast Asian American Education and Advancement has been an important forum to examine the social and educational lives of these particular communities that have been part of U.S. society since 1975. The editors of the Journal of Southeast Asian American Education and Advancement discuss the significance of this journal for the field of Asian American education. JSAAEA has helped shepherd the growth of empirical and creative works that examine Southeast Asian Americans both as separate ethnic groups (Khmer, Lao, Hmong, and Vietnamese) and as a collective Southeast Asian subgroup. The coming of age of 1.5 and second-generation Southeast Asian American scholars who have been part of the JSAAEA community has been an important aspect of the field’s growth. The editors will describe the process and politics of forming the journal and other growing pains involved in a publication’s growth.
