Abstract

This study examines the unique experiences and challenges faced by Holmes Scholars at a rural regional university, focusing on navigating predominantly white educational spaces. Using Critical Race Theory (CRT) as a framework, the study explores systemic barriers, coping mechanisms, and strategies employed by these scholars. Data collection involves in-depth interviews, focus groups, and document analysis. Preliminary findings reveal systemic barriers, racial microaggressions, and limited resources. Scholars use peer support networks, mentorship, and professional development to navigate these challenges. The study underscores the need for policies to support diverse educators in rural settings and provides actionable recommendations to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion in educator preparation programs.
