Comparative Analysis of Equivalent Fractions in California, Shanghai, and Singapore Textbooks

Thu, April 24, 1:45 to 3:15pm MDT (1:45 to 3:15pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Meeting Room Level, Room 703

Abstract

This study aims to examine equivalent fractions as presented and organized in the three series of mathematics textbooks selected from California, Shanghai, and Singapore, respectively. The findings suggest that the three textbook series demonstrate their own feature of coherence in terms of macro-coherence (lesson structure), and micro-coherence (examples and practice problems). The study illustrates the importance of understanding of textbook coherence and the improvement of the specific topic presentation and organization in textbooks.
