In this paper, we present a MOOC for developing AI literacy in HE and the results of the research study conducted to test its efficacy in the context of a European HEI. The MOOC and the research were based on a broad concept of AI literacy that addresses the need for advancing related mathematical knowledge, ethical awareness and critical thinking. As the primary goal was to create an educational program that enables participants to critically understand how AI technologies operate and affect personal and civic life, the MOOC was designed following the Multiliteracies pedagogy model (Cope & Kalantzis, 2000, 2009). The MOOC was finalized after analyzing data collected from pre-and post-tests, focus groups, and students’ answers to MOOC’s learning activities.
