Fri, April 25, 3:20 to 4:50pm MDT (3:20 to 4:50pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Meeting Room Level, Room 707

Abstract

This presentation will provide a comprehensive overview of the Dismantling Anti-Black Racism Strategy (DABRS) initiated within one of Canada’s School Boards. It will outline the primary goals of the DABRS initiative, which aims to foster an inclusive and equitable educational environment for all students. The presentation will detail the steps taken to implement the strategy across the district, including the development of policies, training programs for educators, and engagement with the community. Specific strategies employed to promote equity in education will be highlighted, such as curriculum revisions, professional development for staff, and the establishment of support systems for Black students. By examining the implementation process and the practical measures adopted, this presentation seeks to provide valuable insights and actionable takeaways for other districts aiming to dismantle systemic racism and promote educational equity. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and successes encountered during the implementation of the DABRS, as well as the impact of these efforts on the school community.
