Teacher Job Satisfaction by Teacher Gender and Principal Support: Results from the National Teacher Principal Survey

Sun, April 27, 8:00 to 9:30am MDT (8:00 to 9:30am MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Meeting Room Level, Room 606

Abstract

The importance of teacher job satisfaction has been well documented. Two variables that may predict teacher job satisfaction are teacher gender (men and women) and principal support. The current study investigated the interaction between teacher gender and principal support on teacher job satisfaction using a nationally representative dataset. Multilevel modeling controlling for teacher- and school-level variables found that both teacher gender and principal support were strongly associated with teacher job satisfaction. There was also one statistically significant moderation effect between the two variables of interest on job satisfaction suggesting that principal support is beneficial for all teachers but are especially beneficial for female teachers when there are high levels of principal support.
