Thu, April 24, 5:25 to 6:55pm MDT (5:25 to 6:55pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Meeting Room Level, Room 605

Abstract

The Sport Education Model (SEM) is one of the most widely implemented and researched curriculum models, which has demonstrated positive impact on social and personal development. This systematic review and meta-analysis examined SEM’s impact on social-emotional competency (SEC) in K-12 physical education (PE). Analysis of 45 studies revealed significant large overall effects (Hedges' g = 1.18, 95% CI [0.55, 1.80]) and moderate to large effects on five respective SECs, namely, self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. These findings suggest that SEM is a viable approach for enhancing SEC in PE, offering valuable insights for curriculum innovation supporting holistic student development.
