Abstract

This study employed multilevel latent profile analysis to investigate socio-emotional profiles at both student and school levels. We further examined the predictors and outcomes of these profiles. The data included 233,849 15-year-old students from 31 countries/regions. At the student level, we identified three profiles, including Low Emotional Regulation Profile, Average Socio-emotional, and Adaptive Socio-emotional Profiles. We also identified three school-level profiles, including Languishing, Typical, and Flourishing Schools. These profiles were predicted by demographic factors. Furthermore, students and schools in more adaptive socio-emotional profiles tended to achieve better academic outcomes and social relations. Our findings demonstrate student- and school-level variations in socio-emotional skills and provide insights into intervention programs by addressing the specific needs of distinct subgroups of individuals and schools.
