Systematic Review of Teacher Trust: Distinctions According to Trust Referent (Poster 3)

Sat, April 26, 3:20 to 4:50pm MDT (3:20 to 4:50pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Terrace Level, Bluebird Ballroom Room 2A

Abstract

Teacher trust is a central concept in creating an environment that fosters collaboration in educational settings (Tschannen-Moran, 2014). The present systematic literature review constitutes a meeting point for these recent empirical studies (n=87) of teachers' trust with respect to four referents: system-level management, principal, colleagues, and students & parents. The definitions of trust in the literature are examined, as well as the factor structure of the measurement scales. Antecedents with a direct association with teacher trust are presented according to their effect size, as are outcomes. The analysis highlights some gray areas to be explored, such as the optimal factor structure of teacher trust, the referent of colleagues, or the statistical contribution of motivation to teacher trust.
