Instructional Leadership Self-Efficacy: A New Scale for Distributed Leadership

Sat, April 26, 1:30 to 3:00pm MDT (1:30 to 3:00pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Meeting Room Level, Room 113

Abstract

A few prior scales have measured beliefs about instructional leadership self-efficacy among school principals. The Instructional Leadership Self-Effiacy (ILSE) scale applies not just to principals, but also to any staff responsible for instructional leadership, even at district offices and in external organizations providing instructional coaching and development. This new scale targets specific tasks for building teaching practice like using data to inform instruction and planning. The process for developing the ILSE scale drew insights from cognitive pretesting and pilot testing with experienced practitioners, offering yet another example of the value of consulting not only with academic researchers but also with practitioners in scale development.
