Abstract

Numerous review studies have examined the use of immersive technologies in education, and AI is increasingly recognized for its potential to enhance learning performance in these environments. However, empirical studies on the combined effects of AI and immersive technologies have yielded inconsistent results, and comprehensive reviews are scarce. This study synthesizes findings from 27 relevant experimental research to assess the overall impact of integrating AI and immersive technologies on student learning performance. Additionally, it calculates effect sizes across subgroups, including immersion level and AI affordance. According to the meta-analysis, integrating AI and immersive technologies had a medium impact, with an overall effect size of g = 0.609. The paper concludes with deeper discussions and suggestions for future research directions.
