Contextualizing Youth Purpose and Exploring Underlying Relationships: A Mixed-Methods Study

Fri, April 25, 9:50 to 11:20am MDT (9:50 to 11:20am MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Four Seasons Ballroom 1

Abstract

This study expanded on previous research by exploring alignment of qualitative interviews of Youth Purpose with recent surveys developed to capture a global measure of Youth Purpose among late adolescents. Initial data were collected from college students through the Measure of Adolescent Purpose (MAP, Authors) and subjected to latent class analysis (Asparouhov & Muthen, 2014; Nyland-Gibson, Grimm, Quirk, & Furlong, 2014), yielding five classes (n = 500, VLMR Likelihood Ratio Test for four v. five classes mean = 1.480, SD = 16.507, p <. 05). These classes were used to identify potential interview participants, who were randomly selected from each class list. Interview results aligned with the latent classes and provide contextual data to supplement findings from the MAP instrument.
