Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals: A Study on Student Engagement and Educational Integration in Universities

Wed, April 23, 12:40 to 2:10pm MDT (12:40 to 2:10pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Meeting Room Level, Room 104

Abstract

This study developed a framework for mapping Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within university courses, particularly those offered in Chinese, to evaluate educational programs’ contributions to sustainability through an analysis of intended learning outcomes. The research commenced by defining key terms aligned with SDG indicators, focusing on course syllabi, and establishing a set of SDG-related keywords. Results revealed that courses predominantly address significant SDG themes, with the School of Management, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, and General Education programs drawing the most student enrollments. The framework proves beneficial for universities in assessing and enhancing the integration of sustainability within their curricula, aiding in strategic planning and resource allocation for more effective incorporation of SDGs into educational frameworks.
