Fri, April 25, 8:00 to 9:30am MDT (8:00 to 9:30am MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Meeting Room Level, Room 710

Abstract

Emotions are time-specific individual occurrences of current, object-oriented, psychological states of a certain quality, intensity, and duration. This study aims to identify emotion-based measures for supporting online learning experiences. Hence, we conducted a systematic literature review, primarily adhering to the PRISMA guidelines, to establish a foundation for enhancing online learning platforms and interventions. From this review, we identified several interventions and areas of emotion-based strategies. Five key action fields for emotion-based interventions were determined: feedback, regulatory strategies, learning strategies, learning interventions, and emotions influencing engagement and motivation. Implications from the presented work focus on improving online learning environments by providing designers with a toolbox of effective emotional design strategies.
