While the significance of preparing social justice oriented teachers is well-borne out in literature, there is comparatively little scholarship around how novice educators of color are prepared to adopt a social justice oriented approach to teaching. Through a longitudinal qualitative study, this proposal documents two novice teachers of color’s experiences with social justice teacher preparation across their undergraduate literacy methods courses and teacher residency programming. Looking forward, it will be important to develop a deeper understanding of how social justice teacher preparation impacts enactment of such pedagogy across the first year in the classroom.
