Graduate Students' Perceptions of Peer Assessment Feedback in Enhancing Research Skills and Productivity

Thu, April 24, 9:50 to 11:20am MDT (9:50 to 11:20am MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Meeting Room Level, Room 608

Abstract

Peer feedback is an evaluative approach that, if used effectively, can enhance the overall experience of graduate students as consumers and producers of research. Methods of assessing students' academic growth at the graduate level are not well-researched compared to the undergraduate level. Graduate students are expected to be more involved in advanced critical thinking, exercise analytical analysis, and develop expertise in evaluative processes. The current study focuses on understanding perspectives of the usage and impact of peer assessment in developing research abilities and productivity in a graduate research class. We used quantitative descriptive correlational research design to address the research questions. The findings demonstrated positive correlation between students' research output and their opinions of the Peer Feedback Assessment (PFA) design.
