From Answers to Actions: Educators Dealing With Children’s Critical Feedback in Early Childhood Education and Care

Wed, April 23, 4:20 to 5:50pm MDT (4:20 to 5:50pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Four Seasons Ballroom 1

Abstract

Critical children's feedback has great potential to improve the quality of interactions in ECEC. However, it is the responsibility of the educators to deal with the children’s feedback and further derive appropriate measures for everyday pedagogical life. In this qualitative study, children aged three to six provided feedback on the experienced interaction quality through an app. Their feedback was then shared with their N=18 educators, who were subsequently interviewed. The study aims to assess how and to what extent educators succeed in deriving appropriate measures from children’s feedback. Results indicate the challenge educators face in deriving appropriate measures, with success varying based on the content of children’s feedback.
