Thu, April 24, 1:45 to 3:15pm MDT (1:45 to 3:15pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Terrace Level, Bluebird Ballroom Room 3B

Abstract

Given the multi-tier demands placed on student parents by their children, colleges, and others, it is essential to document the experiences of this student population to provide empirical evidence to prepare faculty, staff, and administration for the next pandemic. This study employs a case study methodology to explore the comprehensive needs of community college student parents. 34 Zoom or telephone interviews were conducted with student parents attending a community college in Fall 2020. Findings indicate that during the COVID-19 pandemic, the gaps in resources available and utilized by student parents were further widened, resulting in longer degree completion. This study strives to contribute to improving the experiences and well-being of student parents in community colleges.
