Doctoral students in the field of education undergo a range of identity shifts. In this qualitative study, two doctoral students sought to make sense of their multiple emerging identities through photovoice, journaling, and recorded virtual meetings. Using reflective thematic analysis we identified three themes: 1) seeking balance through tensions, 2) embracing evolving central identities, and 3) cultivating communities of support. We explore tensions of our multiple identities and the uneven pace at which we grow within them while processing our wide range of emotions throughout the journey. We identified the power of connecting with and developing our support systems. Implications for higher education and doctoral students are woven throughout.
