This paper examines how generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) can perpetuate Western ideologies and digital neocolonialism in education through inherent biases. GenAI often alienates non-Western students by generating content with predominantly Western cultural references and languages, marginalizing indigenous knowledge and non-dominant languages. To address these issues, we propose the use of human-centric mitigation reforms which include liberatory design to challenge biases, foresight by design for adaptable GenAI systems, and effective prompting skills to minimize neocolonial outputs. These strategies aim to ensure the responsible and equitable use of GenAI, fostering an equitable learning environment for all students.
