Abstract

This paper details the development and pilot implementation of "InvestEd," the first intervention in a transformative intervention series for preservice teachers, aimed at enhancing socioemotional consciousness and sociocultural competence through online modules. Using a mixed-methods randomized control trial, the study found a significant increase in socioemotional consciousness but not in sociocultural competence. The pilot study included 87 diverse preservice teachers, predominantly cisgender women and Caucasian. High levels of participant satisfaction and perceived relevance were reported. The findings highlight the potential of "InvestEd" to improve socioemotional skills, suggesting the need for more in-depth sociocultural content. Future research should focus on integrating comprehensive sociocultural strategies into SEL modules for diverse classrooms, aligning with AERA's goals of promoting educational equity.
