Abstract

This study investigates the impact of gentrification on Latinx high school students' mathematics achievement in urban schools, using Critical Quantitative Race Theory and stratification economics as frameworks. Gentrification can alter school resources, cultural dynamics, and community support systems. This research analyzes how these changes affect Latinx students' academic performance, potentially exacerbating educational disparities. Using a longitudinal and comparative design, the study merges datasets from the School Attendance Boundary Survey, American Community Survey, Civil Rights Data Collection, and High School Longitudinal Study. Multilevel modeling reveals a significant negative impact of gentrification on Latinx students' mathematics achievement, even after controlling for various factors. The findings highlight the need for policies and practices that address both racial and economic dimensions of educational inequality.
